Becca Steven Band

Marian’s, Bern Switzerland

I don’t have much experience with playing the same club multiple days in a row. My suspicions were correct-it’s awesome. Especially when the club is great, the crowds are consistently large and attentive and appreciative, and the establishment feeds you like kings. Bravo Marian’s. Also a great way to end a tour!

Great gig. Very attentive and enthusiastic audience. I’m told the sound was excellent in the house. Slightly dodgy on stage, which was unfortunate. They put together a very cool night though. There’s some kind of tradition for partying well into the morning either last night or this whole weekend, so the club put together a little mini festival. It began with us and went until 5am, including 3 other bands and a DJ. We didn’t stay too late but it was great to see many humans enjoying much music.

This gig was sort of the exact opposite of Pizza Express. The sound was god-awful. Maybe the worst we’ve ever had. We had a fairly lengthy sound check in order to deal with it but got essentially no where. A real drag. We had to fight with the crew to let us drag the piano from backstage (a solid 3 feet from where Liam would be playing it) instead of using a Triton (the fight was a drag, using the Triton would have redefined drag) and the crowd was a little talkative. Ya can’t win them all, but the lovely Sasha, the women who organizes the gig, mentioned every show is talkative and they’re trying to figure out a way to quiet their crowd down for listening shows. She asked for suggestions. I didn’t have many, but I thought of maybe corralling people toward the front of the stage so they didn’t hang back at the bar and chat as much. She seemed mildly into that, but apparently the Dutch are not as into treating their humans like cows the way we are in the states. Whatevs. Oh, dinner was quite good.

GREAT gig tonight. Awesome sound (Luke, you rule), awesome crowd (London, you rule). Decent food (which I guess is par for London…sorry Brits) and great hang altogether. I was new levels of tired since I flew in that morning but the gig was so fun I forgot all about my need for sleep.

Becca Stevens Band

Ottawa Jazz Festival

SUUUUPER fun gig. Damn Ottawa. Way to be a great crowd. We were real flustered, having been held up at the border for longer than expected and traffic woes. Soundcheck felt a little haphazard, but it man-oh-man it came together nicely. I was sad we didn’t get to stick around for the band that played after us…who’s name is escaping me…cause we heard from every crew member and the curator that they were super cool. We were just too damn starving, having missed lunch and dinner. Dinner at Maxwell’s was delicious. Highly recommend for those passing through Ottawa in search of a tasty meal.

First of a handful of shows opening for Soja. They’re a fun band and cool dudes. Their bus broke down so they had a crap of a time making it to the gig, but they did and rocked it. Our set was fun. Warmly welcomed by Trevor’s fans as well as Soja’s. Another good venue for sound, too. Such a nice bonus when monitors aren’t exploding in your ear. Replenished the cooler veggies for road smoothies at Pike St. Market too. As well as scored some custom made belts. If you like belts, leather wrist bands, bags or belt buckles, you’ve got to go see Hunter at the leather stand there. Great dude. Great products.

Killer show. Great crowd. Great sound. One of those stages that feels like it could explode at any moment (in a good way).

Fun gig. Small but mighty crowd. Multiple encores, if I remember correctly. The music felt especially good. Grooving hard, but not loud. Good dinner, too. Can’t remember the name but it’s probably the only Korean place near the club. If you’re in that neighborhood and could use a BiBimBap fix, I highly recommend.

Weird gig. We were 2nd of 3, opening for Iration. Weird vibes between bands…well, mostly between a certain tour manager and us. Not too sure why, but our soundcheck was smooth and we kicked ass, so whatever. Dinner is awful there. If you play there, pack a snack.

Totally scored a Phaser pedal to add to my set up. Hope I don’t blow up the world, seeing as though anything with a wire scares me. I just got comfortable with my effects set up and now I’m adding gear to it? Hope I don’t blow up the world. Or whatever.

Good crowd. Loud and enthusiastic. Thank you.

Fun gig. Farmer’s market outside leading up to the downbeat. Got a ton of fresh, local veggies for my road smoothies. Rawk.

Becca Stevens Band

Duc Des Lombards

Paris, France

Tonight’s gig, as with most Becca Stevens Band gigs, was a blast. We played a total of 4 sold out sets, last night and tonight. Both nights were quite different, vibe-wise, which was interesting. Last night was a long ramp up in looseness and excitement. There was a super up tight feeling when we started, but by the end of the night people were hollering and calling out songs they wanted to hear for encores (Becca’s of course. Not Freebird). Tonight was half way between-people were loose enough to be a little chatty, but not uptight enough to yell out when they were really digging something. Also, the scallop tartar was delicious.
